At a glance
The Capella Bouncer is a comfortable and stylish activity bouncer from Mamas & Papas. It has two variants the ‘Catch a Star’ version and the ‘Coconut Band’.
Mamas & Papas have been designing baby products for over thirty years and say they are committed to producing a world of quality individuality and style for parents. The Capella Bouncer certainly offers itself as a quality bouncer. There are two different versions, the ‘Catch a star’ which is a taupe and white colour scheme, or the ‘ Coconut Band’ which is multi-coloured . For the purposes of this review we have featured the ‘Catch a Star’, however, the ‘Coconut Band’ is identical save for the colour scheme and toy bar.
Firstly, the Capella Bouncer is constructed in the common style of a steel tube frame that is covered with a padded material seat. Unlike some bouncers there is no recline function since the bouncer is a slung seat, meaning that the baby’s weight reclines the bouncer itself to an optimum comfort position. In addition, due to the steel frame design the bouncer will bounce under the movements of your baby and offers a nice gentle up and down motion.
Secondly, the bouncer has a combined music and vibration unit in order to soothe your baby to sleep. Disappointingly there are only 4 melodies played which seems a bit limited compared to some other bouncers on the market.
Finally, an additional seat insert is a useful feature and provides extra padding and comfort for smaller babies. The insert can then be removed as your baby grows and depending on the size of your child would normally be taken out at around 3 to 4 months old to allow more room. The detachable toy bar sports three different interactive toys two little stars and a cute little bear.
The seat is very well padded and with the additional insert included this provides a very comfortable place for your baby to relax.
From a safety perspective the Capella has a standard three point safety harness secured with plastic pinch clips.
Ease of Cleaning
The seat cover can be machine washed at 40 degrees and is easily detached from the frame.
Ease of Assembly
The bouncer requires assembly out of the box but this is fairly straightforward. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. The steel tube bouncer frame slots together but you will need a small Phillips screwdriver to secure the frame with the screws provided. The music/vibration unit just clips to the bouncer frame and the seat cover then slips over the frame. You can then attach the additional seat insert if required.
The music/vibration unit needs 3 X AA type batteries which are not included and sold separately.
Age Range and Usage
Mamas & Papas’ Capella bouncer can be used from birth up to the age of 6 months which is roughly up to a maximum weight of 9 kg or 20 lbs. So if bought for a newborn getting 6 months usage is the average compared to other bouncers on the market.
Value for Money
In looking at value for money, consider the price against usage out of the bouncer.
At the time of writing the cost of this bouncer coming in at £49.00 puts it in the middle of the price range (£££ on the comparison table) which is between £40 and £80’s. As indicated on the age range you should get at least 6 months usage out of the product and so, simply put, a cost of £49 for 6 months gives you a usage cost per month of £8.17 which is a fairly high usage cost per month score. See Baby Bouncer Comparison Table.
- The overall comfort

- Music/vibrate function
What to watch out for:
- Doesn’t fold flat for transport or storage
- Limited music function
If you are looking for the best baby bouncer on the market then the Mamas & Papas Capella bouncer probably isn’t it. However, as expected from the makers, the product is a very nice quality and a solid activity bouncer. Finally, the price tag places it in the mid-range so considering quality and functionality this is a fair value bouncer.
